Hey, mama—
Summer heat + pregnancy = a whole experience. Between body changes, extra sweat, and the need for stretch and support, it’s so important to feel comfortable in your clothes—not just cute, but cool, breathable, and confident.
As a doula, I often help clients prepare not just for labor, but for living in their changing bodies right now. So I put together this guide of my top maternity clothing picks for summer—items that will love on your body while keeping you cool and stylish.
1. Flowy Maternity Maxi Dresses
These are your go-to for summer! Stretchy, breathable, and one-and-done. Look for soft cotton or bamboo blends, empire waists, and side ruching for growing bellies. This cute maternity maxi dress wrap with a V-neck line is perfect for the summer! Its breathable, durable, and breastfeeding friendly too! I kept this in rotation through pregnancy and postpartum. It has great stretch and even has pockets for convenience.
2. Lightweight Belly Support Biker Shorts
You’ll want something breathable, with a gentle belly band that doesn’t dig in. These work great under dresses or on their own with a loose tee. These biker shorts have great quality- non transparent, soft, stretchy, with belly support and deep pockets.
Looking for some shorter gear with a little more stretch? These comfy stretchy pregnancy shorts are so soft, comfortable and stretchy, making them perfect for pregnancy and postpartum. These pregnancy shorts have a wide stretchy waistband with plenty of room to grow throughout pregnancy. Their quality and stretch makes them perfect for both during and after pregnancy.

Doula Tip: Choose moisture-wicking fabric and minimal seams for ultimate comfort.
3. Flowy Maternity Tops
Stylish, breathable, and easy to throw over a tank or nursing bra. his maternity top grows with your bump and carry you right into postpartum. I love the detail on this top, it’s very flattering, all while still providing comfort. This top can be dressed up or down and is a perfect add to your daily maternity wardrobe rotation.
4. Maternity High Waist Romper
Effortless and cute. Go for something with adjustable straps and lots of stretch this summer. I love a cute one piece, bringing convenience and comfortability in one. This romper is flowy and super light, providing lots of room for stretch and deep pockets for convenience and full coverage for your bra.
Doula Tip: Great for birth bag packing too—you’ll want something that doesn’t cling and is easy to change in.
5. Supportive Nursing Bras (Yes, Now!)
Even if you’re not nursing yet, the right bra is essential for comfort as your breasts change. Look for wireless, breathable options. These nursing bras come in a pack of four and are super comfortable through pregnancy as your breast grows and goes through changes. They are good for sleeping too! Additionally, the clasp are so easy to undo making nursing seamless.
Doula Tip: Sleep bras are great for day and night wear in the third trimester.
6. Open-Toe Slides or Cushioned Sandals
Swollen feet are real, and you deserve shoes that love you back. Opt for cushioned soles. These cute open toe sandals are such good quality, come in various colors and they are so light-weight and comfortable! I practically lived in these sandals as a go to during my summer/ fall pregnancy.
Doula Tip: Keep a pair by the door—your body will thank you.
Looking to make your already favorite everyday shoes more comfortable? Memory foam insoles provide excellent shock absorption and cushioning for achy feet relief. I’m always on my feet and on the move, these insoles significantly reduced impact and pain i had in my heels and the balls of my feet.
7. Breathable Maternity Tanks
Let that belly breathe! These maternity nursing tanks are so soft, comy and breathable. They were definitely a go to in my rotation whether lounging around or going out. For nursing mamas, these cute flowy summer nursing tank tops are super comfy, breathable, soft, and stylish! I love that these tanks come in various colors. This material is perfect for hot and humid weather and provides easy access for breastfeeding.
Likewise, ribbed stretch tanks are perfect paired with biker shorts or a skirt.
Doula Tip: Add a kimono or button-up if you want to layer.
8. Kimono or Lightweight Duster Robe
Kimino’s allow you to add style, coverage, and airflow—ideal for lounging, birth prep or photoshoots.
Doula Tip: Use this in labor to maintain a level of comfort and dignity while navigating labor poses. This can be used in postpartum as well for comfort and easy nursing.
I can honestly say this was a great investment! Its so stretchy, comfortable and functional. The robes tie is sewn into the back making it easily accessible.
Remember:
Pregnancy is a full-body, full-soul experience. Dress in a way that honors that. Comfort, breathability, and ease are your birthright—not just in labor, but every day leading up to it.
With love,
